Everybody can really appreciate a sparkling, clean bathtub. Nobody wants to bathe or shower in a dingy tub. It’s no secret that I love Magic Erasers, and it just happens to be that using Magic Eraser on bathtubs is one of the best ways to clean your tub!

There are just a ton of uses for Magic Erasers around the house, including cleaning stains, getting rid of stubborn marks, polish jewlery and of course, cleaning your bathtub.

It is made up of melamine foam and comes with a proprietary cleaning solution. This foam is super-porous and bites into scum and dingy surfaces with ease. Usually making cleaning/scrubbing tasks very quick.

In this article, I’ll walk you through my process to cleaning a bathtub with a Magic Eraser and we will cover more detail of whether you can use a Magic Eraser in a bathtub. Let’s dive in!

What is A Magic Eraser?

Magic Eraser is a multi-purpose cleaning product that consists of tiny porous-surface melamine foam that contains special cleaning agents. It can be used to clean surfaces of any type in the home such as floors, walls, glass, appliances and furniture. It works by removing the surface layer of the stain with the help of soft fiber which is made out of the proprietary melamine foam material.

Is it Safe to Use Magic Eraser in Bathtub?

Magic Erasers can be used in a bathtub safely, as long as you scrub gently and don’t use too much pressure. On a high-gloss tub, there is a chance to dull the finish over time with heavy pressure. Cleaning a bathtub with a Magic Eraser does not need much effort. Simply wet the sponge, squeeze out excess water and gently scrub the surface of the tub and fixtures.

The main thing to be aware of when using a magic eraser on a bathtub is the amount of force you are applying. Since they clean so well, you really don’t need to scrub super hard. Try just lightly going over the stain or scummy areas a few times, this should scrub away the stain from the tub easily. See our step-by-step process here.

As long as you follow our simple tips, you should be able to get your bathtub clean in no time and with minimal stress and effort!

Can you Use Magic Eraser on Fiberglass tub?

Yes, you can absolutely use it on a fiberglass bathtub. The Magic Eraser will remove the hard water stains and soap scum from your fiberglass tub. It is perfectly-suited to tackle these messes. Just note; not to scrub too hard as fiberglass tubs can be prone to scratching and dulling over time. Follow our steps below to clean your fiberglass tub with a Magic Eraser.

Can you Use Magic Eraser on Porcelain tub?

It is perfectly fine to use a Magic Eraser on a porcelain tub. In fact, a porcelain-steel tub is one of the most durable styles of bathtub on the market. A Magic Eraser will easily bust through any times of grime and soap scum on your porcelain tub, making cleanup way quicker than any other option. This is why using a Magic Eraser is one of my favorite bathroom cleaning tricks!

Should I Use Magic Eraser on Acrylic Bathtub?

You can (and I do) use a Magic Eraser on acrylic bathtubs, but just be careful to not scrub too hard! This is because acrylic tubs are the most-prone to scratching and dulling over time. The acrylic glossy finish on the tub can be scrubbed dull with over-cleaning, this is made worse by normal wear and tear. Using your Magic Eraser to clean the acrylic tub is a quick and easy solution, but follow our steps below to make sure you keep you tub looking good as new for years!

How to Use Magic Eraser on Bathtub (Step by Step)

If your bathtub is stained and dirty, you can easily make it look sparkling clean by using a Magic Eraser. I’ve been using these for years when cleaning around the house. I couldn’t imagine my cleaning regimen without these! Especially when it comes to cleaning bathrooms and bathtubs, having magic erasers at hand makes everything A LOT easier!

Magic Eraser Bath with Gain Original Bath Scrubber Pads
Magic Eraser Bath with Gain Original Bath Scrubber Pads – my favorite for cleaning bathrooms!

I recommend the Magic Eraser Bath with Gain Scrubber Pads for cleaning your bathtub. These are my favorite Magic Erasers to use in my bathrooms. They smell amazing, clean really good and are reasonably priced. You can also use the regular Magic Erasers, they will just need a bit extra effort as they don’t cut through soap scum quite a well.

Follow along my steps to clean your bathtub perfectly using the magic eraser:

Step 1: Choose the Right Magic Eraser

As we mentioned, you need to choose the best Magic Eraser for cleaning your bathtub. I recommend the Magic Eraser Bath that has Gain Original scent. With a firmer texture, it has more scrubbing power. The integrated Gain cleaning solution smells awesome and will leave your bathtub spotless and with a lovely scent.

Step 2: Add Water

Wet your magic eraser with warm water thoroughly. This activates the special Gain cleaning solutions inside the sponge. You’ll feel the eraser get heavier as it absorbs the excess water.

Step 3: Give It a Good Squeeze

Give your magic eraser a couple good squeezes. You’ll force out excess water, at the same time activating the formation of cleaning bubbles. These will help you to tackle cleaning your tub with ease.

Step 4: Scrub the Magic Eraser on the Bathtub Stains

Next, you’ll rub directly on your tub. Making sure to target highly soap-scummy or stained areas in multiple passes. Remember, you don’t want to power-scrub one area lots. Give it a few passes, especially if you have one of the easier to scuff bathtubs we mentioned above. The magic eraser will power through almost any stain with a few passes, leaving your tub as good as new!

Step 5: Wipe Away

After you’re satisfied with the results, you’ll want to wipe away any residue or rinse with clean water (my prefered method). Sometimes an extra wipe with a towel or paper towel is needed, especially on chrome fixtures.

If you prefer, you can now go over your entire bathroom with your favorite bathroom cleaning products, pay close attention to those little areas; behind the faucets and drains. There are times when I only use my magic eraser in the bathtub, and just quickly move on. I find it does a good enough job usually that I can get away with this! I mean, if you don’t need to spend another bit of time cleaning, why would you?

Hope this quick guide to cleaning your bathtub with a magic eraser has helped!
